Book report

 ”Bible thumping”

An American soldier used a Quran, the Islamic holy book, for target practice in a predominantly Sunni area west of Baghdad, prompting an apology from the U.S. military, a spokesman said Sunday.

The Association of Muslim Scholars, a Sunni group, condemned the shooting of the Quran, calling it “a hideous act against the book of almighty God and the constitution of the nation and the source of its glory and dignity.”

The incident was first reported by CNN, which broadcast a ceremony at which the top American commander in Baghdad apologized to tribal leaders in Radwaniyah. The military confirmed the details in an e-mailed response to a query.

Would we hear a comparable height of outrage from American scholars if the book was a Bible? I’m sure they’d be upset.

Come As You Are Party

Code Pink casts spells. That’s “spells”, not “smells”.

Code Pink is now resorting to witchcraft to beef up (sic?) the number of its supporters protesting a controversial Marine Corps Recruiting Center in Berkeley, California.

The women’s anti-war group has told ralliers to come equipped with spells and pointy hats Friday for “witches, crones and sirens” day, the last of the group’s weeklong homage to Mothers Day.

Sirens? You mean like “temptingly beautiful woman”, “insidiously seductive woman”, “a woman who sings with bewitching sweetness”? Driven by hormonal curiosity, I went back to THIS, and found nary a siren in the bunch. No eyes of newt, toe of badger, or fuming cauldrons either, but lots of unused potential.

Quote of the Day

Via JustOneMinute:

Let me see if I understand this - John Edwards and the Krugman Democrats want to negotiate with the Iranians and North Koreans but not the drug companies or health insurers.

Well, as long as we are clear who the bad guys are.

Speaking of Iran, it looks like they almost got more than they bargained for when provoking US Navy warships this weekend (HT: Gateway Pundit):

In what U.S. officials called a serious provocation, Iranian Revolutionary Guard boats harassed and provoked three U.S. Navy ships in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, threatening to explode the American vessels.

U.S. forces were on the verge of firing on the Iranian boats in the early Sunday incident, when the boats turned and moved away, a Pentagon official said. “It is the most serious provocation of this sort that we’ve seen yet,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record.

White House spokesman Tony Fratto said: “We urge the Iranians to refrain from such provocative actions that could lead to a dangerous incident in the future.”

…There were no injuries but the official said there could have been, because the Iranian boats turned away “literally at the very moment that U.S. forces were preparing to open fire” in self defense.

The official said he didn’t have the precise transcript of communications that passed between the two forces, but said the Iranians radioed something like “we’re coming at you and you’ll explode in a couple minutes.”

We should have given them an express ticket to meet Allah.

Brainy Quote of the Day

Jack Murtha relieves himself, so speak, with astonishing insight into the military definition of “surge” and a revelation about the final goal of the Iraq War.

“I think the surge is working, but that’s only one element.  It’s working because of the INCREASE IN TROOPS“,  (duhhhhh, that’s why they called it a “surge”),”but the thing that has to happen is that the Iraqis have to do this themselves….” (duhhhh,  concluded Syntax Man Jack Murtha, apparently notifying the Pentagon of the Murtha Doctrine).

Jack’s not going to get his cookie from Pelosi tonight.

When Hillary is President…

Hillary for the “Greater Good”

We are so lucky to have a person running for President who is willing to sacrifice everything.

hillary-twin.jpg

Let us examine the manifold ways she intends to accomplish this “selflessness”:

  • Sacrifice the military for world peace.
  • Sacrifice scientific secrets for campaign donations.
  • Sacrifice education to promote failed public schools
  • Sacrifice speech for sensitive dialogue
  • Sacrifice your freedoms for UN hegemony
  • Sacrifice your choices for national health care
  • Sacrifice your labors for diversity
  • Sacrifice our culture for multiculturalism

MADD becomes uncorked

 Marines have earned adult rights

The U.S. Marine Corps versus Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. That will be a battle. And it should be.

A dispute currently pits the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California, against MADD. The Corps wants Marines serving under the age of 21 to have the right to consume alcoholic beverages. MADD is steadfastly opposed, and is spear-heading efforts to block the Corps from accomplishing this feat.

The issue at the heart of this confrontation extends far beyond the base limits of Camp Pendleton and the borders of California. It needs to be addressed nationally, and as soon as possible for the benefit of the men and women serving in all the U.S. Armed Forces.MADD is misguided.

Military men and women of any age have earned the right to assume the privileges of adulthood by their demonstrated levels of courage, commitment, sacrifice and responsibility. Denial of the legal consumption of alcohol to those in uniform under the age of 21 is preposterous and disrespectful, especially because a large share of those in the U.S. Armed Forces are between the ages of 18 and 21.

It is time for the hypocrisy of the current system to end. It is time for federal — not state and local — legislation to be enacted to permit present and former military service members — including active duty, Reserve and National Guard members under the age of 21 — to be able to show a valid military ID to be served or to purchase alcohol.

Damn right! If you can get your butt shot at for this country you earned the rights conferred on adults.
I’ve never understood how someone attaining the age of 18, isn’t smart enough to drink, but they’re smart enough to vote.

Pinhead Paper Shufflers Prohibit Flag-Folding…

This happens when the snivelling desk-jockey becomes your master….

After Complaint in Riverside, flag-folding recitations banned at veterans’ cemeteries nationwide

By Joe Vargo, The Press-Enterprise, October 25, 2007.

Through thousands of military burials, Memorial Honor Detail volunteers at Riverside National Cemetery have folded the American flag 13 times and recited the significance of every fold to survivors of those being laid to rest.

The first fold, a narrator tells relatives, represents life, the second a belief in internal life.

The 11th fold celebrates Jewish war veterans and “glorifies the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”.

A single complaint lodged against the words for the 11th fold recently prompted the National Cemetery Administration to ban the entire recital at all 125 national national cemeteries.

A spokesman in Washington said the complaint originated from someone who witnessed the ceremony at Riverside National but would provide no other details and declined to release the directive banning the 13-fold  recital, saying it was “an internal working document not meant for public distribution”.

(That means they don’t want you to know about it. Moorlocks hate the sunshine.)

This orgy of clownery goes on, with Mike Nacinik, “spokesman for the National Cemetery Administration”, who says the flag-folding is “not government approved” and they’re “looking for consistency” .  Read the rest if you have a strong stomach….

NEVER FORGET!  For the greatest gathering of imbeciles in your area, find your local Federal Government patronage-system desk brigade.   If you’re a clean hire, exclude yourself.  It’s the careerist pencil-chewers I’m talking about.  You know who you are.

US Military Compromising Its Focus and Risking Success

The DoD isn’t efficient or cost effective, but when something absolutely, positively has to be broken overnight, there’s nobody better.  It’s probably the only function that our government does well, but I’m afraid that’s about to change:

In the first major revision of U.S. naval strategy in two decades, maritime officials said Wednesday they plan to focus more on humanitarian missions and improving international cooperation as a way to prevent conflicts.

“We believe that preventing wars is as important as winning wars,” said the new strategy announced by the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

Isn’t this the State Department’s job?  Why do we give billions to the UN every year?  It sounds like the generals and admirals are attending a few too many Georgetown cocktail parties.

It’s not polticially correct to say, but the military’s job is to break things and win wars.  PERIOD.  It’s a successful formula.  If you don’t believe me, ask Saddam Hussein’s “vaunted” Republican Guard how they feel about the US military.

By adding humanitarian and nation building tasks, the military is compromising its focus and risking its success.  The DoD is there to mop up State’s failures, not be part of the problem.

Free speech OK from the left?

Have you wondered why this has been played down in the MSM and the Donks? Figures doesn’t it!

The Dirty Little Secret of the Left

Right now the oppressive regime in Myanmar, or Burma, is once more featuring prominently in the news. The hated regime represents everything that left wing political parties abhor: excessive brutal force used to suppress the poor population, widespread censorship, strict military rule. You name it, the Burmese government does it. But… the government isn’t a right wing dictatorship at all. It is a socialist dictatorship!

Who woulda thunk it!

Drawbacks to isolationism

We are being pushed out of the southern and western Pacific slowly by China’s aggressive entry into our former sphere of influence. 8 helicopters does not constitute a takeover, however the service of these is an entrance to more expansion. Some of our more secret materiel still operating from those fields could be compromised.

China offers to sell military choppers to Manila

China has offered to sell 8 utility helicopters to the Philippine military as it seeks to replace its Vietnam War-era aircraft, a Philippine air force official said on Wednesday.

Defence ties between China and the Philippines — a longtime U.S. ally — have grown steadily since 2004 when the two sides launched an annual security dialogue.

Beijing has since donated $2.5 million worth of engineering equipment to the military to help it carry out development projects in areas where communist and Muslim rebels operate. On Monday it promised another $2 million in military aid. [snip]

I do not see the Chicoms helping defeat the communist insurgency, the Muzzies are fair game since any religion is inimical to Red China.

At some point we are going to be head to head with the Chinks. Maybe over Taiwan, maybe the Spratley Islands (claimed by the Philippines), or over a stink about lead paint. Trading with them isn’t the same as trading with a democratic government. The Middle Kingdom believes it is above all others.

They have trashed patent and copyright laws, stolen and produced trademarked goods and generally been a bad trading partner. Where is the upside?

Holy House Halfwit

DENNIS KUCINICH IN SYRIA, BLESSES EVERYONE BUT AMERICANS

Eligible bachelor, pacifist hunk and Ohio Representative, Dennis Kucinich was in Syria last week cuddling the region-stabilizing Bashar Assad for his open-door policy to Iraqi refugees.   The population-expanding meddling in the Iraq War of the Syrian and Iranian regimes has encouraged Iraqis friendly to both countries to take refuge across their borders.

Experts here conclude that these population-expanding and stabilizing policies were met with approval by the impish hair-dye tester and apple-doll head model, Dennis Kucinich (D-Emented).  Syria and Iran both seek to redress the population imbalance by sending terrorists to Iraq to stop the sectarian violence by killing Iraqis,  a “fair” policy almost certain to meet with Kucinich’s endorsement.

Assad’s intimidation, murder and assassination policies in nearby Lebanon have enabled the American left’s much-admired and peace-oriented Hezbollah to threaten the destabilizing Israeli state to the south.   This reporter believes that Kucinich endorses murder, assassination, and Islamic totalitarianism as a means to continue the  “peace-process”  slaughter, and to promote stability in the region as long as it is legal.

Experts here also believe that American forces, claimed by liberals to be already short on the necessities of  war, lacked the disinfectant supplies that would be needed after Kucinich hand-shaking.  Legal scholars and compassionate conservatives here believe that Kucinich’s blessing of American forces would almost certainly violate Constitutional restrictions on religious expression, and that Kucinich wished to avoid offending Islamist Al Qaeda beheaders worldwide.

WorldNet Daily Online  (Sep 6, 2007) had this to say:

After praising Syria following a meeting in Damascus with President Bashar Assad, Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich declared he will not visit troops in Iraq during his Middle East tour because he considers the American military presence in Iraq to be illegal.

“I feel the United States is engaging in an illegal occupation….I don’t want to bless that occupation with my presence“,   Kucinich said in Lebanon according to the Associated Press. “I will not do it”…

It is not known when Representative Kucinich will slither back to Washington, DC.

Military In Iraq Want Energy Beam Weapon

Pentagon Concerned Weapon Seen As Torture Device

WASHINGTON — The military has been holding back using a device that fires energy beams instead of bullets, despite requests from U.S. commanders. [snip]

The Pentagon has refused to deploy it out of concern that the weapon itself might be seen as a torture device.

Perched on a Humvee or a flatbed truck, the Active Denial System gives people hit by the invisible beam the sense that their skin is on fire. They move out of the way quickly and without injury.

beamer.jpg

According to a document prepared by Marine Corps officials in western Iraq, reviews by military lawyers concluded it is a lawful weapon under current rules governing the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

If it isn’t a lawful weapon, the military should go back to using flamethrowers and napalm which will give them a different sense their skin is on fire, eliminating the rancor over perceived torture.

This is crazy that the military is even worrying about such idiocy. Give it the label: Endorsed by the ACLU. U/L tested.
