North Texas school district will let teachers carry guns

HARROLD, Texas — A tiny Texas school district may be the first in the nation to allow teachers and staff to pack guns for protection when classes begin later this month, a newspaper reported.

Trustees at the Harrold Independent School District approved a district policy change last October so employees can carry concealed firearms to deter and protect against school shootings, provided the gun-toting teachers follow certain requirements.

In order for teachers and staff to carry a pistol, they must have a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun; must be authorized to carry by the district; must receive training in crisis management and hostile situations and have to use ammunition that is designed to minimize the risk of ricochet in school halls.

Superintendent David Thweatt said the small community is a 30-minute drive from the sheriff’s office, leaving students and teachers without protection. He said the district’s lone campus sits 500 feet from heavily trafficked U.S. 287, which could make it a target.

“When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that’s when all of these shootings started. (emphasis added) [snip]

Doesn’t this sound as if the district had a bowl of smarts for breakfast. This school now moves to the list of places that are very very low on the shoot-em-up list: gun stores, shooting ranges, police stations and my house.

…government started making schools gun-free zones… Yeah, sacrifice a few kids, then start screaming for gun control. More kids shot, start frothing at the mouth, the moonbat pols join in the fray. No means to an end is too extreme; ask Putin, Soros or Kos. Logic never rules an argument on that side.

First on Drudge on Aug 15th, let us see if the MSM reports this anywhere.

A PC produced death for society

What do Syria, Myanmar, Darfur, Hell, Afghanistan, Iran and Britain have in common? God-awful places to live is the answer.
However none except Britain are so uncivilized as to keep you from protecting life and property. The U.S. under the Donks and libs strive mightily to get us to that place particularly with the “progressive education” so enjoyed.

For more than two years, Sydney Davis’ house has been under siege from stone-throwing youths. And more than two hours into the latest attack on his family home, the police had yet to respond.

So after a particularly large missile landed in his kitchen, the 65-year-old grabbed a plank of wood and ran towards the gang to scare them away. But his desperate act came just as the police finally arrived on the scene - where they promptly arrested him for possession of an offensive weapon.

He now faces up to six months in prison. [snip]

In Britain, protecting oneself by means of a weapon, from assault with intent to maim or kill, is punishable with time in prison, not short either.

How did they get they get to this position. By the liberal method of constantly moving the goal posts back to get a bit more correctness in the law.

When the Donks took over congress in the ‘70’s here, they got their ideas from across the pond. We are about 10 years behind Britain in rampant stupidity, only because of luck and some members of SCOTUS. No problem seeing why the left vilifies the conservative side of the bench, is there?

A sampling of cases illustrates the impact of these measures:

In 1973 a young man running on a road at night was stopped by the police and found to be carrying a length of steel, a cycle chain, and a metal clock weight. He explained that a gang of youths had been after him. At his hearing it was found he had been threatened and had previously notified the police. The justices agreed he had a valid reason to carry the weapons. Indeed, 16 days later he was attacked and beaten so badly he was hospitalized. But the prosecutor appealed the ruling, and the appellate judges insisted that carrying a weapon must be related to an imminent and immediate threat. They sent the case back to the lower court with directions to convict.

A proper and PC verdict, would you say?
Now if the jogger said he was carrying the metal to help him lose weight and build up stamina, what could the prosecutor have said?
The lesson to be learned in this PC world is do not tell the truth!

In 1987 two men assaulted Eric Butler, a 56-year-old British Petroleum executive, in a London subway car, trying to strangle him and smashing his head against the door. No one came to his aid. He later testified, “My air supply was being cut off, my eyes became blurred, and I feared for my life.” In desperation he unsheathed an ornamental sword blade in his walking stick and slashed at one of his attackers, stabbing the man in the stomach. The assailants were charged with wounding. Butler was tried and convicted of carrying an offensive weapon.

NYC has a law that allows prosecution for assault if one defends themselves with their cane. A prosecutor can bring the case to the grand jury, which as you know, will indict a ham sandwich for not having mustard. I presume using your crutch would make matters ever worse.

In 1994 an English homeowner, armed with a toy gun, managed to detain two burglars who had broken into his house while he called the police. When the officers arrived, they arrested the homeowner for using an imitation gun to threaten or intimidate. In a similar incident the following year, when an elderly woman fired a toy cap pistol to drive off a group of youths who were threatening her, she was arrested for putting someone in fear. Now the police are pressing Parliament to make imitation guns illegal.

Absolutely right! We cannot have these young malefactors wetting their pants, can we.

In 1999 Tony Martin, a 55-year-old Norfolk farmer living alone in a shabby farmhouse, awakened to the sound of breaking glass as two burglars, both with long criminal records, burst into his home. He had been robbed six times before, and his village, like 70 percent of rural English communities, had no police presence. He sneaked downstairs with a shotgun and shot at the intruders. Martin received life in prison for killing one burglar, 10 years for wounding the second, and a year for having an unregistered shotgun. The wounded burglar, having served 18 months of a three-year sentence, is now free and has been granted $5,000 of legal assistance to sue Martin.

Think 911 will save you

911 motto: When every second count, we’re only minutes away.

Victim Shot While Calling 911″

A California woman was shot to death as she pleaded with emergency dispatchers to come and help her. Her death will not make the network news programs this evening, but this is the latest reminder that we must take responsibility for our own safety and not rely on the police.

Bill Masters, a libertarian and sheriff of a Colorado county tells the residents of his county, “It is your responsibility to protect yourself and your family from criminals. If you rely on the government for protection, you are going to be at least disappointed and at worst injured or killed.”

Gun control puts honest citizens in the position of having to choose between protecting their lives or respecting the law. What kind of government would do such a thing?
More on gun control here and here.

The Second Amendment says the people have the right “to keep and bear arms.” Government officials, however, insist that they can make it a crime to keep and bear arms.
Open the newspaper, turn on the television, or surf the net, and you’ll find people saying the government can solve our problems and make life better.

This is the happy face of government:

gov.jpg

Behind the happy face is an institution that is willing to strip of us of our right to self-defense, and, worse, deprive dying patients of life-saving drugs. Who do these politicians and bureaucrats think they are?

How a Non “gun free zone” works

…and kids, this is the way it works!

80-year-old John Wayne
fan puts attacker in hospital

Investigators say they were definitely going to rob him - possibly even kill him.
But an 80-year-old North Texan wasn’t about to let that happen, so he took action.

One of the suspects is in the hospital and both are facing charges.

Two men obviously thought James Pickett, 80, was an easy target when they showed up at his home on Saturday with a knife. [snip]

In short, even at 80, he is someone you just don’t mess with.

What the men didn’t know is Picket had taken a pistol and put it in his pocket before opening the door. [snip]

The old saw about knives at gun fights holds up.

“I think I’m a ten times better shot than and he is… But they best not come back,” he said.

If he was a good shot, there wouldn’t be a trial.

Another gun free zone shooting

Multiple Victims In N. Illinois Univ. Shooting

DE KALB, Ill (CBS) Several people have been shot on the Northern Illinois University campus. The suspect killed himself and officials say the danger has passed.

Officials confirmed that several people were shot at Cole Hall, a large lecture hall on campus, shortly after 3 p.m. and the campus was immediately placed on lockdown.

Kishwaukee Hospital reported that up to 15 people were being brought to the hospital and that three to four of those victims had suffered head wounds. [snip]

Officials said the immediate danger has passed. [snip]

Yeah, till tomorrow.

The only competent advice one can take from this sort of happening is ‘Stay out of gun free zones.’

Add some more irony, Illinois has the more draconian anti-gun laws on the books, from complete bans on handgun ownership in aeas to no carry permits and stringent long gun possession.

Works doesn’t it! Perhaps they should incorporate the British laws where they arrest and prosecute anyone who applies any self-defense measures of any level. That way they will have someone in court as a example.

Would you please not scream, go into the corner and die quietly.

Gun free zones revisited

Reality will bite you hard.

For those of you who believe the police are there for you, for those of you who know there is never a cop around when you need one, and for those of you who live in fantasyland of gun weapons control, this message is for you. Take it to heart fools!

This is not a slam at the police; it is a slam at you, the criminal enabler, and the charter member of the victimhood club.

This should be on every police vehicle in large type. responsibility.jpg

The police protect and serve the community at large. You protect yourself.

Incidentally, why don’t you put a sign in your front yard reading “GUN FREE ZONE.”

Gun free zones are deadly

Even with the police right there, the shooter invades a gun free zone and shoots.

6 Dead After Gunfire at Mo. Meeting

KIRKWOOD, Mo. (AP) - A gunman with a history of acrimony against civic leaders stormed City Hall during a council meeting Thursday night, killing two police officers and three city officials before law enforcers fatally shot him, authorities said. The mayor was critically injured in the rampage.

The victims at the meeting in suburban St. Louis were killed after the gunman rushed the council chambers and began firing as he yelled “Shoot the mayor!” according to St. Louis County Police spokeswoman Tracy Panus. Two people were wounded before Kirkwood police fatally shot him, she said. [snip]

Shooting on campus. When every second counts, police are only minutes away, in this case 4 minutes.

BATON ROUGE, La. - A young woman killed two female students in a college classroom at a vocational college Friday, then killed herself, police said.

The students apparently were shot in their seats in the second-floor classroom at Louisiana Technical College, Sgt. Don Kelly said.

Officers ran into the building within four minutes of the first 911 call, which came at 8:36 a.m., he said.

“There was mass pandemonium, people running,” Kelly said. “One officer — the first into the classroom — told me he could still smell gunpowder.”

The students’ names and ages were not immediately released, and it was not clear whether the shooter also was a student.

The school offers classes in a dozen subjects including early childhood education, practical nursing, drafting and welding. [snip]
