House Democrats Kill Own Cheney Impeachment Resolution

Republicans probably don’t deserve another chance to run Congress after botching it so badly, but it looks like Democrats are determined to open the door for them:

The U.S. House voted along party lines Tuesday to send a resolution calling for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney to the House Judiciary Committee, where it likely won’t see daylight any time soon.

The impeachment resolution, sponsored by Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, accuses Cheney of violating his pledge to protect the U.S. Constitution. It says that Cheney misled the public about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and ties between al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein’s regime, as well as by making threats against Iran “absent any real threat to the United States.”

They’re rejoicing at the Democratic Underground and the Daily Kos, but impeaching the vice president wasn’t a huge priority in most voters’ minds last November.  And they know this issue won’t move their mid 20ish approval ratings, which is why they voted to table it.   However, I do agree with House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md.:

“I am surprised that Republicans would treat an issue as important as the potential impeachment of a vice president of the United States as a petty political game,” he said. “It is beneath the dignity of this institution.”

Yes, it is a serious charge.  That’s why you should explain to the American people why you brought it and present your evidence.  But tabling it told every intelligent voter all they need to know about the substance behind these charges.

Cheney to rule

Bush to cede power to VP

Cheney to rule during colonoscopy

WASHINGTON - President Bush will undergo a routine colonoscopy Saturday and temporarily hand presidential powers over to Vice President Dick Cheney, the White House said.[snip]

Cheney’s office issued the orders to shoot on sight all southern border crossers and cross dressers. “Permitting Kos/kids to join the Marcus Garvey trans-oceanic canoe race for world diversity is our first priority,” said a Cheney spokesperson off the record.

The New England Senatorial delegation and Hollywood elites are receiving a 6-month educational trip to Iran and Saudi Arabia courtesy of AA and the Alzheimer’s Meet Your Constituents program.

On 6/29/02, Bush underwent colorectal screening for severe pain and constipation. As reported at the time they removed two polyps, several democratic congressmen, and Al Gore’s brain.

Cheney assumed power at that time, but was unable to act due to time constraints.

Further news as it develops.

Clinton’s liquidate “embarrassing” assets

Whose investment portfolio do you think this  is?

The trust included holdings in Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, oil companies, defence contractors, pharmaceutical groups, and Wal-Mart, the giant retailer on whose board Ms Clinton once sat.

Rush Limbaugh? Dick Cheney? Michelle Malkin? Wrong on all counts. It’s the liquidated portfolio of Bill and Hillary Clinton. They’re doing a little house cleaning before her presidential run heats up. It seems that oil and drug profits are bad for everyone except them.

Media bias—Dick Cheney edition

Media bias is an entertaining thing. Supposedly, this is a story about Scooter Libby and his conviction on obstruction of justice charges. But whose picture appears in the story—Dick Cheney.

Gee…I wonder how they feel about Vice President Cheney?

Dems miffed

Cheney accuses them of wanting to take their football and go home.

Cheney Slams Dems Iraq Plan

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney on Wednesday harshly criticized Democrats’ attempts to thwart President Bush’s troop buildup in Iraq, saying their approach would “validate the al-Qaida strategy.” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi fired back that Cheney was questioning critics’ patriotism.

Pelosi says “I’m telling on you!

Pelosi Calls Bush to Complain

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday phoned President Bush to air her complaints over Vice President Dick Cheney’s comments that the Congressional Democrats’ plan for Iraq would “validate the Al Qaeda strategy.” [snip]

The quarrel began in Tokyo, where Cheney used an interview to criticize Pelosi and Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., over their plan to place restrictions on Bush’s request for an additional $93 billion for the Iraq war to make it difficult or impossible to send 21,500 extra troops to Iraq.

“I think if we were to do what Speaker Pelosi and Congressman Murtha are suggesting, all we will do is validate the Al Qaeda strategy,” the vice president told ABC News. “The Al Qaeda strategy is to break the will of the American people … try to persuade us to throw in the towel and come home, and then they win because we quit.”

Don’t you wonder if the charge is untrue, why it would cause such a reaction?

Obi-Wan Romney, you are our only hope!

As a conservative, I must admit to a great deal of disappointment in President Bush and the Republican Party. Credit must be given for the war on Islamofascism, lower taxes, and two good Supreme Court nominations (almost only one); however, only the dollars spent separate Republican and Democratic domestic priorities.

The President and Senate Republicans support the Democratic version of amnesty for illegal aliens. They expand government at a break neck pace with programs like Medicare prescription drugs for seniors. President Bush supported the out of control spending and domestic priorities of Congress without question and waited almost 6 years to issue his first veto. I dare say a President Kerry might not have advanced a liberal domestic agenda so well given a Republican Congress would naturally have opposed him.

And do you know what really gets me down? Our future is not much brighter. Recent polling indicates Senator McCain and Mayor Guiliani are the Republican frontrunners. Both men are socially liberal and neither will advance a conservative agenda. In fact, John McCain takes great pride in not being a conservative and jabbing a fork into the eye of the conservative wing of the Party whenever he can.

With McCain and Guiliani, 2008 might play out a lot like 2000 with the Republican frontrunners trying to convince the conservative elements of the Party to support them. Remember President Bush’s “compassionate conservative”? The nomination of Dick Cheney for Vice President was designed to convince us that the emphasis was on the “conservative” part. Unfortunately for us, the “conservative” was only included to mollify us. The race for the 2008 nomination is going the same way as both candidates will work very hard to convince the base they can be trusted. I don’t buy it for a second.

Our best hope of being saved is Governor Mitt Romney. Can Mitt make a run of it? I certainly hope so because our other choices are not really that appealing if you actually want a conservative agenda advanced and not just a Republican victory in the race for the Presidency.

Another “Scandal” Falls Apart

It looks like the moonbats will be having another “Blue Fitzmas” since special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has announced he will not be charging Karl Rove with any crimes in the Plamegate “scandal”.

Top White House aide Karl Rove has been told by prosecutors he won’t be charged with any crimes in the investigation into the leak of a CIA officer’s identity, his lawyer said Tuesday, lifting a heavy burden from one of President Bush’s most trusted advisers.

Attorney Robert Luskin said that special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald informed him of the decision on Monday, ending months of speculation about the fate of Rove, the architect of Bush’s 2004 re-election now focused on stopping Democrats from capturing the House or Senate in this November’s elections.

Fitzgerald has already secured a criminal indictment against Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby.

Liberals & the media (same thing of course) have rolled out scandal after scandal against this administration and one by one they have been shot down as baseless. In this investigation, only one person has been charged for anything, and the charge was perjury, which has nothing to do with the actual crime that was under investigation. Way to go libs, we just wasted millions of dollars investigating a crime that never happened. As usual your rhetoric didn’t match up to the actual results.

Coulter: Wilson a Liar

Ann Coulter sets the record straight on the whole Rove v. Plame affair:

So liberals were allowed to puff up Wilson’s “report” by claiming Wilson was sent “by the CIA.” But – in the traditional liberal definition of “criminal” – Republicans were not allowed to respond by pointing out Wilson was sent to Niger by his wife, not by the CIA and certainly not by Dick Cheney.

So important was Wilson’s fact-finding mission to Niger that he wasn’t paid and he produced no written report. It actually buttressed the case that Saddam had tried to buy uranium from Niger, though Wilson was too stupid to realize it. His conclusion is contradicted by the extensive findings of the British government. (I’m not sure, but I think that’s what Bush may have been referring to when he said, “the British government.”) One could write a book about what Joe Wilson doesn’t know about Africa. In fact, I’m pretty sure someone did: Joe Wilson.

Remember people, we are dealing with liberals. They are not capable of using common sense when it comes to the President, let alone the evil Rove. Any ideas on who Miller’s source is?

Court Sides With Cheney

Looks like another lefty talking point has bit the dust.

Court backs Cheney on energy meetings
Details on private strategy sessions to remain as such

A federal appeals court ruled yesterday that Vice President Dick Cheney will not have to release details about the role of energy executives in private meetings Cheney held to craft national energy strategies, a decision that probably brings an end to a long-running and politically charged lawsuit.

The Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia unanimously ruled that there was no evidence that energy lobbyists were official participants in Cheney’s private energy policy task force meetings, so its records do not have to be disclosed.

”In making decisions on personnel and policy, and in formulating legislative proposals, the president must be free to seek confidential information from many sources, both inside the government and outside,” the court wrote.

I doubt the looney left will let this decision interfere with their list of “facts” about the meetings.

All of you hung tough

“Deep in the Heart of Texas,

The Stars at Night,

are Big and Bright,

Deep in the Heart of Texas,

The Prarie Sky, is Wide and High,

Deep in the Heart of Texas….”

As I am writing this, the Texans in D.C. are booted up, dandied up, riled up and kickin’ one up. Good for them. Wish I was down there with ‘em.

The more I hear Democrats whine about the Inaugural, the happier I get. The more I hear their fellow travelers in the MSM complain about the “lavishness,” the “expense,” the “garishness” of it all, the more jubilant I become. And so should you, for rest assured if they won, they would have flaunted their victory in our face. Nor would there have been a single complaint about all the money.

On the eve of President George Walker Bush being sworn in tomorrow, Jan. 20th, 2005, lets recall a little, just a little, what has transpired over the past year or so.

The Democrats NEVER raised as much money as they did for John Kerry, EVER.

The Democrats NEVER spent so much to win.

The Democrats NEVER put out so many attack ads.

The Democrats NEVER received so much help from Hollywood, as they did this year.

The Democrats were never so energized to defeat a Republican, as they were President Bush.

The Democrats NEVER turned out so large a vote in all their long history.

The Media NEVER unleashed a continual barrage against a President or candidate, as they did on George W. Bush.

The mainstream media NEVER so completely exposed themselves as shills for the Democrat party.

The Philadelphia Inquirer ran a 21 DAY STRAIGHT EDITORIAL BLITZ against the President.

60 Minutes featured every disgruntled former employee they could find.

Dan Rather, in his frenzy to destroy this President, went over the cliff, taking HIS career and reputation with him.

Mary Mapes has spent the last FIVE years working on the Air National Guard “story.”

I am sure you remember these stories too, these “scandals:” Paul O’Neill, “Selected, not elected,” Halliburton, Ancient treasure looted, “Too few troops,” “No plan to win the Peace,” “Bring it on,” Joe Wilson, Valerie Plame, “Alienating” the world, Driving away our “friends,” The French, Richard Clarke, “Unilateralism,” CIA leaks, State Department leaks, Anonymous, Fahrenheit 9/11, Abu Gharib Photos, Gitmo, “AWOL” in the Air National Guard, The first debate, “Quagmire,” “Another Vietnam,” Fifty dollars and over per barrel of crude, The “lost jobs,” “The jobs number,” “The worst jobs number since Herbert Hoover,” Kofi Anan pronouncing the war “illegitmate and illegal,” “NYTrogate” and the missing explosives, and lastly, right before the election, Osama’s video.

So many stories, so much written, so much aired, and all to drive this man from office. And yet, and yet………

Through it all, YOU HUNG TOUGH, you didn’t rattle. You didn’t flinch. All of you were livid at the collaboration between the media and the Democrats. But you just bided your time and waited for election day. Then you let ‘em have it. All 62 million plus of you.

Your votes told Katie Couric what you thought of her, and you told Barbara Streisand too. Michael Moore did not escape your scorn. Nor did Kofi Anan and his klepto kid Kojo. You let your votes do your talking. You shocked “old Europe.” Likewise the UN. You gave the back of your hand to 60 Minutes, Mike Wallace. Chris Matthews too. You showed your healthy disdain for Mary Mapes, and told her what she could do with her “story.” You told ‘em ALL what you thought of them, LOUD AND CLEAR.

62 million plus of you returned President George W. Bush to the White House, with the FIRST clear majority in sixteen years. There are more Republicans in the House, more too in the Senate. You ejected Tom Daschle, and so we will never have to hear him again mention the word: “concern.” Do you remember John Edwards coming out late election night, embittered, angry, venomous, promising “to fight” promising that all the “votes will be counted.” Remember all the lawyers they retained, ready, willing and able to litigate. They were eager to replay Florida. But 62 million plus of you told the Democrats to take themselves and their lawyers, and get lost.

Exit polls? You laughed at them. Nothing dissuaded you from voting.
Nothing. Not Democrat attack ads, not bogus “scandals,” not Michael Moore, not “Vote or Die.” NOTHING stopped you from voting. Not slashed tires, not Bush/Cheney HQs broken into, vandalized, computers stolen, not signs torn from your lawns, not your cars keyed because your bumper sticker identified you as Republican, Nothing broke your confidence in victory on November 2, 2004.

And now, YOUR GUY is getting sworn in tomorrow.

YOUR guy, NOT theirs.

And to all of this, I say: Make sure you celebrate tomorrow night, have a few cold ones, make yourself a margarita. Extend the celebration all weekend, because all of you DESERVE IT. And as Dick Cheney would surely add, you deserve it, BIG TIME.

“Deep in the Heart of Texas,

The Sage in Bloom is like Perfume,

Deep in the Heart of Texas,

Reminds me of, the One I Love,

Deep in the Heart of Texas….”

The First Vice-Presidential Legacy

What do Martin Van Buren and George H.W.Bush have in common, that Dick Cheney certainly won’t share? They were Vice-Presidents elected directly to the presidency - the only two, in fact. Lots more have tried and, in so doing and because it was known they intended to, made a lesser contribution than they might have. Read the excellent article on the subject by David Shribman in today’s Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The only quarrel I have with his article is that its title should have been in the plural! In addition to the refreshing effect on the next presidential election, which is the main thrust of the article, Cheney gives this presidency and the nation the enormous benefit of a politically invulnerable, indubitably loyal and totally supportive number two. In a time of American hegemony, with the simply enormous burdens that imposes on the presidency, The Cheney Effect - today, let alone when the next race starts - deserves much more attention than it gets. Like the specific results or not, it is pretty clear that one plus one equals a lot more than two, when it comes to the nation’s political leadership.

Yet another achievement of this misunderestimated president and an example, which I hope we’ll see often followed, maybe even to the extent of becoming the rule rather than the exception.

Trashing Kerik

Anyone who thinks the MSM really cares about Kerik’s personal life is dead wrong. Besides the fact that the American people were constantly told in Clinton’s second term that being accused of rape is a personal matter, this is nothing more than an attempt to damage Rudy. Rumor has it that Rudy pushed Bush to nominate Kerik for Homeland Security Director and now, the MSM has gone full throttle in their investigation of Kerik’s personal affairs (gee, if they were only so interested in Kerry’s personal affairs when he was running for President!).

The problem for Rudy is either he turned a blind eye to Kerik’s alleged shenanigans or they never bothered him in the first place. This puts a temporary smudge on Rudy’s resume, but will not be the story that disqualifies him from running for President. But, make no mistake: over the next few years, the MSM and the left will work overtime to portray Rudy as a Tony Soprano mob type the same way they made “oilman” Dick Cheney the modern day J.R. Ewing…..without the drunk wife.

Andrew Card Stays On

Massachusetts native Andrew Card will stay on as White House Chief of Staff in President Bush’s second term.

At the urging of President Bush, White House chief of staff Andrew Card will remain in the job and is expected to play a key role in shaping Bush’s second-term cabinet, officials said on Monday.

Bush spent the weekend in seclusion at the Camp David presidential retreat considering possible changes in his Cabinet, officials said. Vice President Dick Cheney, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice and Card took part in the discussions.

Though some personnel announcements are expected in the coming weeks, Bush is expected to overhaul his Cabinet gradually, officials said.

There had been speculation that Card would leave the post after Bush’s re-election victory. White House budget chief Josh Bolten and Commerce Secretary Don Evans were seen as possible successors.

But officials said Bush asked Card over the weekend to remain chief of staff. “Andy accepted,” a White House official said.

Cheney’s Daughter

I thought it was out of bounds when John Edwards mentioned in the vice presidential debate that Cheney’s daughter was a lesbian. I thought it was even worse when Kerry did it again last night. Lynne Cheney was right to blast Kerry after the debate:

Now, you know, I did have a chance to assess John Kerry once more and now the only thing I could conclude: This is not a good man. Of course, I am speaking as a mom, and a pretty indignant mom. This is not a good man. What a cheap and tawdry political trick.

The smart thing would have been for Kerry to apologize about the comments and move on. Instead it looks like they have decided to keep digging. Here is a comment from Elizabeth Edwards:

“She’s overreacted to this and treated it as if it’s shameful to have this discussion. I think that’s a very sad state of affairs… I think that it indicates a certain degree of shame with respect to her daughter’s sexual preferences… It makes me really sad that that’s Lynne’s response.”

That is just plain ridiculous. Since when is not wanting your daughter’s sex life discussed on national television a sign of being shameful of your daughter. Do you really think Elizabeth Edwards would have liked it if President Bush had discussed her daughter’s sex life on national television? I doubt it.

Update: Dick Cheney has now slammed Kerry:

“You saw a man who will say and do anything in order to get elected. And I am not speaking just as a father here, though I am a pretty angry father, but as a citizen.”

What The President Is Up Against

It is bad enough that the President is up against a Democratic opponent that has no problem taking the opportunities provided to him by terrorists looking to influence our election; something that was unheard of during WWII. He also has to deal with a hostile media that will do everything in its power to elect John Kerry. This post at The Washington Times Political Blog explains the media hurdle the President needs to overcome tonight in the debate:

Evan Thomas, managing editor of Newsweek magazine, predicted earlier this year that the media would be worth about 15 percentage points for John Kerry. After the way the media interpreted the first two debates, his point is becoming clear.

Many thought the first Bush-Kerry face-off was a tie. But an instant Gallup poll the next morning showed Mr. Kerry had “won” by 53-37. After a couple of days of media spin, the margin, in another poll, had changed to 61-15 in Mr. Kerry’s favor. And CNN’s Morning Grind column this week went so far as to describe the first presidential debate as a “massacre.”

Nonpartisan political analyst Charlie Cook actually thought Mr. Bush had won the first debate. Within days, he noticed, the media were treating Mr. Kerry as Abraham Lincoln and Mr. Bush as Elmer Fudd.

Many who watched the vice presidential debate Tuesday thought it was one of the most one-sided affairs they had ever seen. Vice President Dick Cheney, on more than one occasion, left Democrat John Edwards sputtering. Thus it was surprising that an instant survey found Mr. Cheney the winner by only 43-35 percent. More astonishing was a CBS instant poll that found Mr. Edwards the winner by a wide margin. By the next day, the so-called mainstream media were calling the debate a tie.

Clearly Mr. Bush has his work cut out for him, no matter how he does in tomorrow night’s debate.
