The Great Government Witchhunt

Who are these speculators?

All those speculators getting the blame for driving up the price of oil these days — just who are they? [snip]

You!

The retirement savings of workers across the country, entrusted to pension fund managers, are being plowed into one of the few investments that has delivered phenomenal returns in recent years. [snip]

This provides a tremendous return on investment, but it contains a great risk too. At the moment, it is all upside.

Not Buying Clemens’ HGH Explanations

Roger Clemens just joined Barry Bonds as the co-poster boy of steroids in my mind. Today’s Congressional testimony revealed Andy Pettitte’s statement that the Rocket told him twice about his HGH usage. I’m not buying Clemens’ spin that Andy “misremembered.” Clemens proceeded to throw his wife under the bus by suggesting Andy remembered their conversation about his wife’s HGH usage. That’s believable. NOT! And don’t we all just respect the hell out of a guy who hides behind his wife’s skirts. Add Clemens potential witness tampering pow-wow with a former nanny before her testimony, and it smells pretty bad.

Other comical highlights included Congressional jock sniffing Republicans who missed few opportunities to kiss Clemens’ big derriere. After all, it’s standard operating procedure for the subject of a Congressional investigation to show up the week before to sign autographs and have their picture taken with the Congressmen, right? That was a really pathetic performance by some of our Congresscritters.

And it really pains me to say it, but kudos to Rep. Waxman for gaveling Clemens down. The committee needs to refer this case to Justice because I’m not buying any of Clemens story.
