Among the “protesters” in Denver yesterday was Jello Biafra, sometimes also aptly known as Count Ringworm (also seen here  and here - ADULT CONTENT).  He was the front man for the band “Dead Kennedys”.  I’ve always admired the business sense of  leftist grubs like Jello, and those of my generation, like Jerry Rubin.  

Their amoral collapse into radical politics was/is always accompanied by some lurid and revolting but profitable ”lifestyle” (rather than life), that demands your attention like a weeping chancre.  Why are there no comparable figures on the right? 

Well,  Progs in general seem to have a natural preoccupation with the weird and dysfunctional; with the liberating potentials of  personal decay.  Therefore,  people like Jello and Bill Ayers and any number of Progs within the pop culture celebrity system have instant credibility.  I haven’t figured that out.  Is it cause or just correlation?  Is it just another polyp in the malignant range of “theories” dispersed by leftist intellectuals.

It’s probably much less than that.  I suspect the forces of attraction lie in some fetid area of  the Prog brain, where there are no categories for decency, self-respect, or self-control.  For many people, Liberalism itself seems to be the self-justification for almost any act, word, theory or presentation.  

This probably has some evolutionary purpose - plumage, maybe, for mating or dominance.  Or is it just something that’s survived better adaptations in order to remind us of the distinction between man and beast?  Who knows?

By the way, note that 3000 Iraq War veterans were also at the protest.
