Blue State Obamabonanza Taxapaloosa
(Having difficulty posting at the moment, so thanks to Pat and VW for their diligence.)
Here in Connecticut, many of my former restoration customers were second-homers from New York City. Radically liberal, effete and flamboyantly comfortable, they were polite and solicitious, but also considered me (a conservative, and they knew it) as defective in some important way.
The cultural breach between the urbane rusticator and the old-shoe local is permanent. The only place the Robber Baron and the blacksmith meet is in the graveyard.
That’s why THIS and THIS make me laugh , even though I’m strongly opposed to tax targets and social penalties for success. There is, nevertheless, something fitting about the rope-selling capitalist climbing the stairs to the gallows.

Poetically self-satirizing, isn’t it? Do you think yhey’ll laugh it off?
I wait with baited breath for the blame game to start…OH! I forgot…they don’t play that game, silly me!
They’ll laugh it off, Helen, because they’re in the tax-shelter class.
Hotspur, they are in that tax sheltered class, which is precisely why the greedy Donks thought up the AMT for starters. One weaves the thread…
Hey Guys,
McCain landed in Portland today (Sunday) afternoon. Monday…”He’s also scheduled to make a outdoor public appearance at the future site of the Maine Military Museum and Learning Center at 513 Broadway Street in South Portland.” ….http://www.wcsh6.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=90511&catid=2
Bob Beckel has been on Fox today blasting criticism at McCain for campaigning in Maine but by happanstance today we learn that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has a five million dollar advertising buy in place…..for MAINE, the land of the $32,000.00 per capita income, population of about one and a half million. (http://www.turnmaineblue.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=1459)
Translation? Mainers…they hardly know us but we’re all best friends now, and they’re coming for us Locals. We are deer in their headlights and we know they’ll talk sweet and low and ply us with promises. Yes sir..eee! We’ve got their attention, so what is it that we want?
Choir of churchmice, let’s make some noise!
Bob Beckel. What must life be like as a paid bootlicker?
Right about the Alt Min Tax. And I incorrectly called them Robber Barons. The Robber Barons actually produced something.
Are we feeling burned, yet?
I just don’t know what to do…where’s my hand rag?…I feel ill…We need a hero…
Wait! (sob, sniff, sniff) I know! If we whine to Tom he can get in touch with some guy named Chavez by calling 1-800-Joe-4 Oil !
There now, don’t you feel better?

Folks, come to the not-so-Golden State, California. With the Democrats in control of the state legislature, and the “Republican” governor, Benedict Arnold Schwarzenegger, we are about to get hosed to cover a structural deficit. It is more than likely that the state sales tax will be at or over 10%. It is currently at 7.25%. Oh, I’m sorry, I am in Los Angeles county. Make that 8.25%. And the Dems are ready to “soak the rich” and the irony of all this? The state will STILL have a shortfall. So, bring it on Sen. Messiah. We here in California will have been ahead of the curve.
One asks why you are still there?
Sooner or later the advantages of living there won’t be enough.
Ed, sometimes I ask myself the same question. But, it is the old “they will not force me out. I will leave on MY terms”. Plus, I was born and raised here. There is a lot to like about California. And, there is a large, Red section of the state. And there is Orange County. I hope that the state DOES go bankrupt and that essentially we get to start over, this time with conservatives and sanity.
Mark:
If the Formerly Golden State goes bankrupt, look for the looters to expropriate any remaining wealth they can get their hands on precisely from those conservative areas of the state, economic sanity be damned. Nothing short of an old-fashioned neck-tie party is going to allow for conservatives to take back the state.
Mark, by the time CA. gets finished with your money, you’ll have a rucksack and rollerblades to escape.
There is no sanity extant in that state anymore. What did they budget for firefighting, some $80M knowing it cost $130M the year before I think. This time $350M+ is the cost. That’s not oops, that’s malfeasance.
Nnone of that money may be spent on cleaning out the deadwood that fuels these fires, but everyone through community rating pays for these idiots’ fire insurance so they can rebuild back in the same places. They couldn’t afford to if the insurance onus was on them. Same for the cliff dwellers whose houses slide into the ocean.
The cure for this madness is removing the conservative money from the mix. You have seen it time and again that they will not vote their own money for this stupidity.
I’m getting ready to leave Vermont. The clowns here want to shut down the nuke plant which provides 34% of the state’s juice cheaply and they have no other supply. Next year Hydro Quebec contract is up for renegotiation; that supplies 33% of the power. Again no other source, except they are chattering about pinwheels on the hillsides and solar and gee Myrtle won’t thaat be soooo swell.
Projected: Electric rates going up 2 or 3 times current costs which are about $0.10/kw depending upon which provider one has.
Before moving anywhere check the legislature’s collective EEG and IQ.
