New Haven’s death rattle?
Illegal immigrants! Come for the ID CARDS, stay for the CHEAP GAS!
This coming Saturday, if you’re an illegal immigrant in the vicinity of Sanctuary City, New Haven, Connectict, stop at Town Hall, plunk down $10 for an ID Card, then rush off to a (currently unidentified) Shell Station for gasoline at $1.99 per gallon.
Reported only by the ABC affiliate (WTNH) here, details are sketchy. But it seems that the gasoline bargain is offered as an incentive for illegals to avail themselves of Mayor John DeStefano’s ID Card Program. The legality probably doesn’t matter, no more than the legality of the ID Card offer. Lawyers at Yale University are on hand to defend, pro bono, the ID Card program in court, and by the time a decision is rendered, the cards will be in hand.
As cynical as the political and moral calculations are in this scheme, they aren’t the point. Everyone in New Haven sees the ID program for what it is, a Democrat Party growth hormone. The first response to a charade like this is a general attitude of helplessness and, then, decay in the legitimacy of government, unless, of course, you stand to profit from it. Someone always does - developers, civil-service professional classes and more - all thrive in the jungle of sprouts from the self-propagating idiocies of government “urban policies” while the street environment grows more deprived, desperate and violent.
This program appears to be completely free of liberal sham, too. Instead, it’s just a bare-faced and shameless connivance from the puny, wind-up Northeast liberal brain of John DeStefano. Legitimize illegal immigrants through the incentive of cheap gasoline, in order to sustain, and even enhance, the validity of the current establishment of buffoons. This isn’t government by the prudent and intelligent, it’s government by ethical cretins, clawing and scrambling to collect the contents of the pinata. That’s the point. Spoils and perks.
New Haven is, today, the forty-year product of the maniac logic of joining government bureaucrats with Big Business and elite university academics on a mission for the public good. The interest of government is self-perpetuation and power, the interest of Big Business is passing company burdens to the population at large, and academics are especially insidious - they don’t live in the material world, so they’re useless in any practical effort and dangerous when they theorize.
For a consideration of the subject of New Haven, read “Who Governs? Democracy and Power in an American City” by Robert Dahl. Written in 1963, it’s an important, though generally ’60’s-ish liberal, book. It will tell you where we came from, and where we are now. New Haven is wheezing and dying. Only grass roots efforts, by people of good will, of all races and ethnicity, can save it now.

Kill it. Heat a heavy pinch bar to cherry red and drive it through the diseased heart. Use a 20 lb sledge for ease.
Heard some idiot from Conn get picked up for peddling drugs a long way from home. Hope she is enjoying the vacation in a Tn mountain jail. Send some more, there is an open cell or two.
I don’t know about that, Scrap, but drug use in these precious towns is deep and wide. Probably more in the upper-class communities than in New Haven, and the criminal penalties are lighter if your skin is lighter, and that ain’t right.
A good thing about them inviting the criminals in and bribing them to stay is that it will come back to bite the citizens on the butt, hard. A little more downturn in the economy and the millions will stop flowing from D.C. I will hear the screaming all the way down south.
The Feds will not turn off the money, for that produces what they fear most, revolt in the leisure class, recipients of that largess. They will bankrupt the system first.
MS-13 will maintain control. Just ask George Bush. They keep things quiet in Crawford. Here’s the kitchen staff.
