Two Muslim women at Barack Obama’s rally in Detroit on Monday were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women’s headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate. [snip]

Hide the hijab? It depends on the audience. If he’s looking for votes in Deerborn, the selected crowd will look like a Saudi marriage party - if in the boonies, the dead cast of Hee Haw will be propped up and Obama will be wearing a straw hat with a label hanging from the brim - if in New England, look for Greek fisherman’s caps - if in the Southeast, big, sponge Stetsons. It all depends.
