Country Club Republicans Running Party Off the Rails
Country club Republicans, led by Bush and McCain, look they’re on the road to Waterloo this fall. Continuing red district special election losses don’t bode well for the November elections. Abandoning conservative principles for liberalism-lite will keep them in the minority for years to come.

Where is my Governor and what have they done with him?
“”It is the common task of each generation and the burden of liberty to preserve this country, expand its freedoms and renew its spirit so that its noble past is prologue to its glorious future.
“To this task, accepting this burden, we are all dedicated, and I firmly believe, by the providence of the Almighty, that we will succeed beyond our fondest hope. America must remain, as it has always been, the hope of the Earth.
“Thank you, and God bless America.”"

It’s Republicans reverting to type. Reagan allowed a school of jellyfish to pretend they were sharks. The occasional one with a vertebrae was killed by the others because he posed a threat. For a long time I though they moved up the evolutionary scale; they produced and stood by a Gingrich, but that was only a masquerade. Gingrich turned out to be nothing more than a wonk in the end, with the same go-along instincts. What’s even worse is, they don’t even seem to have a capacity for embarrassment.
We can vote for Bob Barr in the election.
Today’s political parties should be named after the defunct. Whigs, Tories, Know nothings, Freebooters and Schmucks all come to mind.
“We can vote for Bob Barr in the election.”…or write in Mitt!
With respect to you, Pat, I don’t know who these Country Club Republicans are…sometimes also described as “blue blood Republicans”. The Rockefellers and the Lodges were the last of that species, and the areas that used to send them to Congress and Governorships are now all Democrat.
We need to know who our opponents are, and since the country clubs and ateliers and cafes in CT are filled with northeastern liberals, not old-line Republicans, we’re complaing about nothing.
I don’t think we know what the problems is, yet, although I’ll make a guess. The Republican Party hasn’t changed at all; it simply became associated with conservatism in the MINDS of conservatives.
Any Party that can accomodate Trent Lott is not conservative, and he was dumped not because of his ideas but because of the Thurmond affair. Good.
Also, conservatism is now associated with the essentially incoherent, utilitarian conservatism of talk-radio people. They still can’t bring themselves to identify the source of the decay, and that source is George Bush. Until they display some honesty, and the rest of us start THINKING again, instead of emoting and ranting, we haven’t a chance.
Huckabee Interview: McCain’s Running Mate?Mike Huckabee tells Newsmax he has no idea where U.S. News & World Report got its information that he’s at the top of the list of John McCain’s possible running mates. Hear his response to the question, “Would he accept?” He says McCain needs to give some “straight talk” to conservatives to ease their fears. About climate change, he says it’s a two-sided issue. He also expresses sympathy for Barack Obama with the Rev. Wright controversy.
Is it too late for Mitt to run as a Conservative Party candidate?
Helen, running a Conservative would be very upsetting. I don’t know why you’d want a TWO party system.
Well, Madison was right. A large commercial republic endows people with the temptation of self-interest, and the means to satisfy it. Then they don’t pay attention to their masters, and wind up with nice dining room sets and no freedom. Then it doesn’t matter how many parties you have.
