Kennedy Clan Invokes Camelot Mystique in Obama Endorsement

Raise your hand if you really care about political endorsements.  Politicians still fight for them.  The media still chatters about them.  But aren’t they the ghosts of a bygone era?  Before the Internet, databases, and almost instant access to information, an endorsement from a respected figure carried some heft.  Today, I just don’t see the value.  Nor do I know many people waiting breathlessly for their marching orders from George Clooney or Rush Limbaugh.

All of this brings us to the big political endorsement of the day—the Kennedy clan’s endorsement of Barack Obama.  Yes, Ted put the whiskey bottle down long enough to endorse Mr. Obama.  And don’t forget Caroline Kennedy (What has she done that’s noteworthy?) harkening back some 4 decades to Camelot by comparing Barack to JFK.  After all, they’re young, photogenic, and both used drugs although Barack used for recreational and not medicinal purposes.  With all those “wonderfully” similar qualifications, why not make Barack president?

But like I said before, I don’t think endorsements carry the weight they once did.  And I could care less what Ted Kennedy, a drunk with no character at all, has to say about anything.

He just can’t drink the past off his mind.

This is a pretty good political calculation, nevertheless. Support Hillary and she loses, and you’re a reactionary fossil. Support Obama and he loses and you’ve taken your shot at “change”, that Donk fetish.

Kennedy’s endorsement speech was deranged. Reminded me of old film of Nuremberg, with fluttering flags and goose steppers.

Finally someone who said it. Caroline — exactly what has she done? Why would I listen to her? And Kennedy, since when is he respectable? I know you won’t agree but the Kennedy’s are just republicans in disguise and threatened by anyone other political dynasty than their own. Who wants the day of JFK back? That has nothing to do with now.

The Camelot dreck was a complete invention of Theodore White and Jacqueline Kennedy. She invented the myth herself and conveyed it to White, who eventually constructed it for Life magazine. It was also she who commenced the total fiction that her husband was assassinated by reactionary forces in the US. She was an inventive opportunist who grovelled for wealth and status, and found some of both with JFK and then Onnasis.
White himself was a caricature of the journalist as novelist.

The Camelot nonsense, and its bright shining moment delusions, was no different than the Diana manias. No one believes in it now except old lefties of the Chris Matthews variety.
