The Vermont legislature, our shepherds
It’s nice to know our shepherds are so diligent.
The Vermont legislature, elected in 2006 promised to fix the property tax, how education is paid for in Vermont. The legislature did not get the job done on education, and failed to do anything about the high rate of taxation in general.
On the subject of taxes, Representative Janet Ancel D. Calais, VT said, “Getting by this lets us focus on some really important things.” So the legislature fiddled with the important items.
The introduction of a plethora of nanny bills resulted: Trans-fats, cell phones and seat belt bills etc. exploded like a bean propelled poot. A surtax of $250 on vehicles meeting their disapproval attracted much attention; the reason, it directly attacked CO2 and greenhouse gases.
They dithered one month about Global warming and what Vermont would do to stop it. Eventually, the socialists, RINO’s and brain dead decided Vermont’s answer to global warming is a 35% tax on profits from Vermont Yankee. This, of course, is the only “green” producer of power, supplying between 30% and 40% of the state’s electricity.
The Governor said he would veto it. On July 11th, we shall find out if the legislature can override the veto. The Democrats have a veto proof majority in both houses. Still, it isn’t a sure override.
As to the property tax problem, the elected poobahs bestowed something called the Education Cost Containment and Quality Bill on the electorate.
Revolt and Repeal is getting traction on tax reform with some towns looking to secede, joining NH. Meanwhile, retired Vermonters are forced to sell lifetime homes and move out of state. Young workers leave the state looking for employment paying enough to keep them from becoming second class citizens. Unfortunately, conservative influence drops as they leave the state too.
Maybe it’s time for the maple syrup to be dumped in Lake Champlain.

VW, the site you linked us to for Revolt and Repeal is a terrific approach! I think all the New England States need one somewhat similar and then they should be linked in Common Cause within an unbrella site…we are sure to find more strength and safety in numbers! How can we do this?
….but they have to be set up so that our meekest, most reticent voices will have the chance to be heard whenever they want and need to be!
This Vermont legislator is one of the founders of Revolt and Repeal. Perhaps some one can contact him and start a branch in MA.
