Wish we could build some refineries 

The population of the US in 1970 was about 205 million people. Census 2000 estimated the US population at about 281 million people. Our population increased by roughly 37%, but over roughly the same time period refining capacity actually shrank:

If wealthy liberals oppose windmills out on the Cape, do you suppose they would let us build a refinery? I hear the Kennedy Compound would be an ideal site. I would not hold my breath waiting for any Democratic proposals to address the need for new refineries though. They will focus on the unknown future (what better place to potentially waste billions of our tax dollars after all) and complain about a lack of funding for alternative energy sources while they continue to actively oppose any options to address today’s needs.
