Gov. Ed Rendell: White Trash Eagles Fan

Free Republic linked to this Philadelphia Eagles’ article earlier this afternoon. At first, I assumed it was just another anti-Philly hit piece deriding the class of Eagles fans designed to boost morale for the Patriots, but guess what I uncovered:

In 1989, even [Ed] Rendell played a role in the misbehavior when he bet fellow fans in the rambunctious 700 level of Veterans Stadium that they couldn’t reach the field with snowballs. He lost, in more ways than one….Rendell, then the city’s district attorney, made good on a $20 bet, but later apologized when the story inspired bad press.

Imagine if George W. Bush did something like this in 1989 - Dan Rather probably would have interviewed witnesses on 60 Minutes and claimed he was doing a public service!!! Gee, I wonder if the Governor was there when Eagles fans were urinating on the crowd from the infamous 700 level?

***In a related note, super classy Donovan McNabb commented on the escalation of the Eagles-Pats pre-game trash talk:

“They were meaningless comments,” Donovan McNabb said. “Freddie didn’t mean anything by them. It’s sad that people have to blow them up to make them into a story. “Freddie apologized. If someone needs those comments to get up for a game like this, they don’t need to be here. This is the Super Bowl, this is the ultimate.”

Seriously New England fans, you’re already favored by 7 points!
