Democrats Changing the Rules on Senator Replacement
As I have noted previously, the Massachusetts Legislature is ramming through legislation to change the way we replace a Senator who leaves in the middle of a term. Currently, the Governor would appoint someone to fill in for the remainder of the term. Of course we have a Republican Governor, so the overwhelmingly Democratic Legislature is rushing through legislation to change it so that there would be no appointment, just a special election after 2-3 months. This would be a huge advantage to Democrats who could run one of their well funded Congressmen. For a good description of the hypocrisy of this move by Democrats, see Matt Margolis’s post here. Of course none of this will matter in the long run because Bush is going to win!
